Let’s talk about the dress.
I’m excited and not excited to go shopping for this. Is that normal? I’m afraid nothing is going to fit. And I’m afraid I’m not going to find anything I like. All the dresses I’ve been in love with over the years have been discontinued. First, my long time dress love, the Sagrera from Pronovias was discontinued. (Ytpes, I looked at wedding dresses long before I was engaged. My excuse? I was a freelance writer for bridal magazines.) This was, and is in many ways my dream dress, but alas, much like my dreams of skiing in the Olympics, it’s just not meant to be. So what now?
After that I looked for a back-up – and I found another Pronovias dress that I loved, the Brandie.
Do you notice a theme? No strapless. Lot’s of lace. But unfortunately Pronovias discontinued that dress too. Now I wasn’t thrilled about that bow thing around the waist, but that can be easily removed. But since that’s not an option either I started my search again.
I finally found another dress I liked from another Pronovias brand – La Sposa. But now I can’t even find any place that carries it!
As soon as my Mom comes back we are going to a few bridal salons to try on dresses – Kleinfelds (of reality TV fame), Wedding Atalier, and Pronovias. I’m hoping the experience is fun. What you see in the movies is you, your Mom, all your girlfriends, champagne and a montage of dresses. The reality? You have make appointments weeks in advance, and you only get 90 minutes. Realistically you can only try on 4, maybe 5 dresses in that time? So you need a clear idea of what you want before you go in. To me that sounds less like fun and more like a mission.
Oh, and throw in that I have no idea what these dresses cost, and I’m not the biggest fan of spending a fortune on a dress I’m only going to wear once… Plus, I’m no where near my goal weight that I wanted to be to try on dresses…. soooo, long story short, this is starting to stress me out. Am I the only bride to be who feels this way?)
Either way, I’m still looking for dresses that I like. My Pinterest Wedding Dress Board is little sad, I’ll be honest, but it is coming along! If you want a sneak peek at the dresses i’m loving – or what I’m eating to squeeze into them – follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest!
