Every week I make breakfast, lunch and dinner (and sometimes dessert too!) for me, and when he’s home, my boyfriend. That folks, is a lot of meals. And, while I’m pretty handy in the kitchen, sometimes I like to try what other folks have thought up too. Here’s a sampling of some meals I’ve made from some of my oh-so-very-favorite food blogs.
APPLE SPICE SORBET from MY NEW ROOTS
Every week now when I head to the farmers markets there are stalls and stalls of apples. I’ve had a complex relationship with the apple. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don’t. Ok, maybe it isn’t that complex, but right now I’m looooooving it. So when I came across this Apple Spice Sorbet recipe from My New Roots, I was super excited. And as usual, the recipe did not disappoint. My New Roots is one of my all time favorite websites, and has helped transform how I eat. Seriously, if you don’t find yourself flipping through every paged obsessed with the recipes, you are crazy. I ended up making some Tofu Whipped Cream from CD Kitchen to put on top, along with a sprinkle of cinnamon. Yum.
DETOX SALAD from EDIBLE SOUND BITES
Part of the appeal of this salad from Edible Sound Bites is that it reminded me of a carrot, raison and vinegar salad my mom used to make for me as a kid. It was awesome in the summer, and this seemed like a tasty autumnal alternative. I ended up altering the salad a little by subbing out raisons and making an avocado, olive oil and apple cider vinaigrette to put on top. With all the beautiful vegetables from the farms market – white carrots and purple cauliflower – its as pretty as it is healthy.
SWEET POTATO ALMOND BUTTER MUFFINS from THE MINIMALIST BAKER
Not gonna lie, as first I was like: Sweet Potato and Almond Butter what? But it works, trust me. I’ve been eating these bad boys every day for breakfast and they are moist and delicious. Minimalist Baker’s are always awesome and beautifully photographed. Seriously, this is one of the best food blogs out there.
